Shelby Aquatic Center to open May 27

Summertime is just around the corner, and for kids big and small summertime means swimming! And swimming (and other water activities) are what it's all about at the Shelby Aquatic Center, located at the Shelby City Park, 850 West Sumter Street in Shelby. The Aquatic Center is set to open on Memorial Day Weekend, Saturday, May 27, 2017 - Monday, May 30, 2017. The center will also be open during the weekend of June 3-4, 2017, before beginning regular summer hours on Sunday, June 11, 2017.
While the opening weekend will mostly be about dipping toes in the water for the first time this season, regular classes and activities will also begin soon afterwards. Among the many activities scheduled at the center during the summer months are one-on-one and group swim classes, water aerobics, family nights, swim club, and special swim times.
For those with summer birthdays or other fun occasions to celebrate, the Aquatic Center is also available for pool parties. Party reservations are for two-hours blocks during weekend regular open swim hours.
Parties are held in the back area beside the deep end of the pool where there are picnic tables with umbrellas. The Park provides a cooler with ice. Hosts can bring prepared food items, but cookouts are not allowed. The cost is $15 for city residents and $25 for all others, along with a per person charge. This charge for those swimming is $3 per person for those 12 years and under and those 55 and up, and $4 for all others.
