Shelby High Class of 1955 has 60th reunion

The Shelby High School class of 1955 held it's 60th reunion August 21-22, 2015 at the Don Gibson Theatre.
The festivities began Friday night with forty-seven classmates and friends gathering in the lounge for fellowship and heavy Hors d' Oeuvres prior to attending the "Elvis" concert in the theatre.
After a day of individual site seeing and lunch gatherings, eighty five classmates and guests arrived at the Don Gibson Theater Lounge Saturday evening to mingle, talk, laugh and sometimes shed a tear while reminiscing the days of old.
Class Treasurer Buddy Carter, accepting the role of emcee, welcomed everyone and introduced Shelby's Mayor Stan Anthony. The Mayor offered a warm welcome to all the visiting Shelby classmates and mentioned some of the many changes to the community over the past sixty years. Lee Gilliatt gave the invocation.
Bill Blanton recognized Janice Sarratt Dumas, surprising her with a bouquet of yellow roses, for her continued work in keeping track of all the classmates, working on all the reunions and periodical newsletters to classmates. He then thanked the committee for their hard work and Linda Price for her wonderful school colored decorations in the lounge. This was followed by a great BBQ buffet, banana pudding and a 60th cake that was enjoyed by all.
Impromptu entertainment was provided by a duet with Buddy Carter and Mayor Anthony playing the guitar, singing "Do You Remember These."
A beautiful tribute to our classmates, living and deceased, was given by Mary Greene. We had 130 classmates that graduated in 1955 and still have 87 living classmates.
The next half hour was spent trying to get forty three classmates to group together, face the camera and stop talking long enough that a class picture could be taken.
Finally, a microphone was passed around allowing each classmate to introduce their guest, comment on their family and perhaps tell a story.
The evening ended with several door prizes including one for traveling the greatest distance, won by Doug Hamrick traveling from Texas.
Many were heard planning the upcoming 65th reunion as they were leaving the lounge.
