Shelby’s Junior Life Guard Program
With lots of encouragement from her mother, seven year old Brooke Morgan Porter keeps very busy. She obviously is a good student of any program she gets involved in. Brooke models, does cheering leading, dance and piano and now she has received a certificate of completion as a Junior Life Guard. At her home many trophies are indicative of her achievements. She received her certificate of completion on July 18th of this year at the Shelby Aquatic Center. Her teacher was Erin Riggs who has been a lifeguard for the past four years. The program for a Junior Life Guard is open to everyone. The course includes a group lesson, life saving skills, CPR and backboard, first aid and being able to notify a life guard of any problem. The Junior Life Guard must know all signs indicating any problems in the pool. It is a good program for futuristic training. Brooke Porter will be eligible to become a full fledged life guard when she is 15 years old. Meanwhile, she has been introduced to what it’s all about to be a good life guard. The program is very good for all youngsters. Congratulations, Brooke.                              –M. A. Andrews
