Sherwood Hardin Sr.

Sherwood Hardin Sr. of Shelby, NC gained his heavenly wings on the evening of Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Hospice of Cleveland County.

Sherwood was born January 12, 1952 to the late Freddie and Bernice Cannon. Sherwood graduated from Shelby High School and went on to pursue a career in textile at Easter Mills and Clevemont Mills until their closing. He continued his career at Eaton Corporation until his retirement. He was a devoted member of Shiloh Baptist Church where he was a member of the Deacon Board and Men's Choir. As a lover of sports, especially the Shelby High Lions and the Carolina Panthers, he was inducted into the Golden Bulls Hall of Fame.

In addition to his parents, Sherwood was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Mae Hardin; two brothers, Jay Surratt, and Gerald Cannon; his mother and father- in-law Willie and Elizabeth Jones, and two brother- in -laws, Eddie Jones, and Billy Jones.

Sherwood leaves to cherish fondmemories, his children, Kimberly Hopper (Chris), Tenisha Hush, Sherwood "Vic" Hardin Jr. (Tamara), and Atalie Crosby-Scott (Jamal); his siblings, Frieda C. Lattimore, Alesia Cannon, Veronica Wray (Todd),and Rodney Cannon (Mary Ann); eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Along with raising their children, Sherwood and his wife reared four of their grandchildren, Marquitt "Stick" Jones (Liekisha), Antonio Thompson, Chris Hardin, and Fantasia Hush, in the home and had two special grandchildren, Dominique Thompson and Taveon Hardin. He also shared a special bond with two uncles that were raised as brothers, Bobby Hardin (Kathleen) and Eddie Hardin and his son-in-law, Mark Hush.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 3:30 pm at Shiloh Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the church and other times at the home. Burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery.
