Cherryville - Mrs. Shirley Jane Smith Bowman, 78, passed away on Thursday,
May 5, 2016 at her home.

Shirley was born on October 26, 1937 in Maryville, TN a daughter of the late
Henry Harrison Smith, Sr. and Dora Hollingshead Smith Hughes. She was
retired from Carolina Care Center of Cherryville as resident secretary.
Shirley was a member of Waco Baptist Church and worked in civil service of
the U.S. Government for the U.S. Air Force in the Phillipines. She was a
member and Past Worthy Matron of Cherryville Chapter #156 Order of the
Eastern Star.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph
A. "Joe" Bowman, Sr. and six siblings.

Survivors include a daughter, Pamela Jensen and husband and Rick of
Virginia; three sons, Charles R. Potts, Jr. and wife Leigh of Colorado
Springs, Colorado; Ron Potts and wife Karen of Pikeville, NC; Darwin Potts
and wife Laura of Friendsville, TN; three stepsons, Joe Bowman, Jr and wife
Janet of Gastonia; John C. Bowman and wife Gloria of Polkville; Jeffrey
Robert Bowman of Polkville; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Monday, May 9, 2016 from 10:45 AM to 11:45 AM at
Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home & Cremation Service.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00PM at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home
& Cremation Service with Dr. Harold E. Fite and Mr. Richard Jensen
officiating.

Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Fallston with Eastern Star
Rites.
