Shirley L. Bailey, age 69, of Hester Mill Road, Rutherfordton, passed away Friday, April 7, 2017 at the Hospice House of Rutherfordton.
Born October 30, 1947 in Polk County, she was a daughter to late Rolie Lawter and Ethel Hutchins Lawter. Shirley worked for the Rutherford County Public Schools for over twenty years. She was a longtime and faithful member of Harris First Baptist Church for thirty-four years where she taught children, cleaned the buildings and was a choir member. Shirley was a hard worker who enjoyed working outdoors. She enjoyed yard work, gardening and working constantly around the house.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Hub and Vernon Lawter and a sister, Judy Bailey.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband and caretaker of fifty-one years, Hix Bailey; daughter, Patricia Watson and husband, Tony of Rutherfordton; grandson, Luke Watson; brother, Jerry Lawter and wife, Brenda of Polk County; sister-in-law, Virginia Lawter and brother-in-law, Doug Bailey both of Rutherfordton.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 10, 2017 at the Harris First Baptist Church with Pastor George Whitmire officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church.
