Sonny Greene, age 78, of Chase Drive, Forest City, died Monday, January 29, 2018 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Born December 4, 1939 in Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Leebron Greene, Sr. and Margaret Crowe Greene. He worked in textiles most of his life which included Cone Mills-Cliffside Plant and Burlington Industries. Sonny was a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He will forever be known as a man of strong faith and was fully dedicated to his Lord and Savior, his family and to his church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Brenda Baker and a brother, Ronnie Green.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of sixty years, Yvonne Greene; one son, Larry Greene and wife, Martha of Rutherfordton; three daughters, Melissa Wise and husband, Harold of Chesnee, SC, Teresa Oliver and husband, Ray of Cliffside and Sherri Prescott and husband, Alan of Forest City; two brothers, Hal Greene of Forest City and Mike Greene of Polkville. He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church of Forest City with Reverend Matt Mills and Reverend Bob Philbeck officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. A private family interment ceremony will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.
