St. Matthews bakes with a mission

Open Hearts Bakery, a ministry of St. Matthews Methodist Church, Morganton provides seven types of homemade breads, plus pies, pound cakes and baked goods at the Foothills Farmers' Market in Shelby every Saturday morning. Sourdough bread is one of their most popular sellers, but everything they bake is very good and the demand keeps growing. All their products are baked at St. Matthews Methodist Church in Morganton in their Department of Agriculture certified kitchen. All proceeds go to support missions and outreach projects, both in the local community and around the world. St. Matthews has about one hundred members and some very dedicated volunteers.
The church is located at 201 Shady Rest Road in Morganton. Pictured above Ann Kelley of Shelby purchases a loaf of that wonderful sourdough bread from volunteer Tom Russ of St. Matthews Church. One might say "this bread is truly blessed!" The church bakery carries this scripture as their motto: "And the King will answer them, Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of my brothers, you did it to me" - Matthew 25:40.
