Street Scene Uptown Shelby July 18th
Geezer
“Street Scene” Uptown Shelby’s Sidewalks Will Become A Stage July 18, 6pm-8pm
There is nothing quite so cool as to stumble upon an impromptu live music set along the sidewalk in a town or city. You may have experienced this unexpected surprise on vacation or in Charlotte, but what about Shelby?
As Uptown Shelby Association continues to look for ways to inspire people to spend more time in our beautiful Uptown, this Sidewalk musician idea is coming to a reality.
On one evening, July 18th, we will place musicians in several uptown locations to play music on the sidewalks to encourage folks to stroll, eat, shop, listen to music and enjoy Uptown.
We are naming this event “Street Scene” and it is scheduled on July 18th from 6pm to 8pm.  We will be “Turning the Sidewalks into a Stage”. We have several talented musicians who are willing to share their music on the sideways of Uptown Shelby. This is an opportunity for restaurants to feed folks, stores to stay open a bit longer and for people to see our town in the evening come to life.
Scheduled Musicians are:
Luke Edwards and Kennon Knight
Shelby native, Luke Edwards (of Tater Family Travelling Circus) will show his vocal and guitar muscle, entertaining us with is favorite Appalachian flair. Joining him is, long time friend, Kennon Knight who is a highlight to the Moses Jones Band with his drumming skills. Fans wait anxiously for Kennon to pass out drums and percussion instruments and invite all to join the drum circle. Kennon is part of DrumSTRONG, a global cancer awareness initiative. Kennon will end the night with a drum circle.
Jeff Walker
Jeff Walker Is a local singer/songwriter with smooth tones vocally and on the guitar. He has a history of contemporary Christian music with a southern twist but has recently complete recording a country album that will release in October. Folks will want to dust off their boots to see Jeff share his music.
Geezer
Geezer is a five piece band of seasoned musicians. All members played in bands in the 70s and 80s.  Therefore their love of music is focused on the rock and roll “oldies” with some funk, country and pop. They have a new addition to their group and she is extremely talented and not of “geezer” age. They are lucky to have her even with the misfit age.  Members are: Tom Steagald, Greg Tillman, David Melton, Dee Campbell and Chandler Carrigan.
The Guys Next Door
Yes, these really are the guys that work next door to the Uptown Shelby Association office. Pharr Technology is not only a bunch of computer geeks but also a bunch of musicians as well. They plan to rock out a sidewalk. This group has some ties to the band Harvest.
This is an exciting concept to try. Many towns and cities support their street performers and see the benefits of evening entertainment. So make plans to come stroll around Uptown and enjoy “Street Scene” .
