Sylvia Jane Haynes Wheelus, 78, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 14, 2025, at Hospice Wendover in Shelby, NC. Born in Cleveland County on September 19, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Warren Tillman Haynes and Addie Elizabeth Waters Haynes. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gary Wayne Wheelus.

Sylvia's love and warmth were felt by everyone who knew her. If you were part of her life, you were family to her. Her kind heart and generous spirit left a lasting impact on those around her.

She is survived by her two sons, Robby Barr and Rodney Barr (Sandy); her daughter, Angi McCoy; and her cherished grandchildren: Tate, Gage, Raylynn, Chris, Tristen, Victoria, Dylan, and Logan. She also leaves behind six great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy. Sylvia's close friend, Heather, who was like a daughter to her, will deeply miss her presence.

A celebration of Sylvia's life will be held at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Beulah Stony Point Community Church in Shelby, NC, with Rev. Robert Crawford and Pastor Van Spencer officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sylvia's memory to Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.
