Ted Lamar Darr

Blacksburg -- Cherished by many, Ted Lamar Darr of Blacksburg quietly passed Friday, December 10th surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his wife and soul mate that he loved dearly, Mary Thompson Darr, a daughter who he cherished and she cherished he, Crystal Darr Miller, a son-in-law that he considered his own, Travis Miller, two granddaughters, Alexis Brooke-Louise Miller & Ava Danielle Miller, that he loved without measure, a sister, Genene Darr Bozzuto, of whom he had an irreplaceable relationship with, a niece, Donna Gay Johnson (Bobby), whom he adored very much, & partner in crime Daisy Darr, his friendly canine.

He lived a simple life that was full of happiness & was very proud of his humble beginnings growing up on the Cherokee Falls Mill Hill. He grew up of the Baptist faith, attending Cherokee Falls Baptist Church, where he loved ringing the church bell to signal the start of services.

Living in the country and growing up by the river allowed him to develop a love for the great outdoors, enjoying fishing and long days exploring the river banks. He developed many memories and made lifelong friendships that he was very fond of throughout his time in Blacksburg.

He was a brilliant man who developed a character of hard work & determination. God's gift to all was his quick wit, compassion and self-made, entrepreneurial spirit. His God given talents of enjoying people, conversation & helping others in his community all contributed to his great successes. He was a people person, never meeting a stranger.

He genuinely cared about his customers. His energy & zest for life/people all contributed to the founding of eight successful businesses that he saw to the daily activities in. He and his wife more recently established Darr's Auto Sales & Munchies Gas n Go in Blacksburg. He was able to purchase the Gaffney Country Club later in his life to secure a future for its members and himself. He loved playing golf with his friends; they spent countless hours laughing and had fond memories of their tee time shenanigans. He and his wife retired in September and were looking forward to catching up on life and enjoying the grandchildren, of whom if you asked him how many he had, he would say not enough.

He had a zeal for politics and worldly affairs and enjoyed deep conversations with his friends and family about such.

Ted was preceded in death by his mother Bessie Darr & father Grover Darr, a nephew, Ricky Wayne Sparks, & a great nephew, Ronnie Wayne Upchurch, all of whom he adored.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, December 16th 2021 at 3:00 pm at the Gaffney Country Club, 267 Huggin Rd. Gaffney, SC 29340.
