The Food Network is coming to Shelby
Tucked away in a corner, across the street from the Cleveland Regional Medical Center, is an 700 square foot bakery. Located at 807-1 Schenck Street, the tiny bakery’s two owners, Jerry and Mary Painter is the reason that the popular Food Network is coming to Shelby.  The bakery’s name is “Do You Love It  - Sweet & Savory Patisserie”. A sign above the working area explains the reason for the bakery. The sign says “All Because Two People Fell In Love”.
The for rent sign came down at the location and they opened July 30th, 2010, just 15 months ago. The couple had worked together at a Charlotte Country Club, but wanted to do something in their own environment and do what they loved, baking and decorating. Believe it or not, they also love working together and got married on April 3, 2010. Once you get to know them, it like a mutual admiration society. Each totally admires the other and the talents they have. Mary will tell you that “Jerry loves to cook and bake and I love to bake and decorate.”
Mary got the idea to submit an application to the Food Network for a competition. Three months later they received a request from the network for a video. In July of this year they submitted a three minute tape, displaying their talents, training and awards. It emphasized in particular Jerry’s talents. Mary said she acted silly. They received a request from the Food Network to come to Los Angeles and left October 14, where they spent five days in competition. The results cannot be announced, but the Food Network is flying into Shelby to film Jerry and Mary at their bakery, and should be here before the end of November. When in Los Angeles filming, they wore pink chef coats with “Do You Love It” embroidered on them. The show should air on the network sometime in March or April. Hopefully, the announcement of the results will come out in February, if not before.
“Do You Love It?” You bet. Two people who fell in love and began their dream. Now, we’ll have to see if another part of their dream is coming true. Welcome, Food Network to Shelby and its special little bakery.
