The Reverend Doctor Reginald Gay Dawkins, Sr. of Baptist Retirement home in Asheville, NC passed away on January 19th, 2021. He was born in Sumter County, SC on September 18, 1932 to Mr. May Vance Dawkins, Sr. and Mrs. Flonnine Hildreth from Anson County. He was educated in the public schools of Sumter, S.C. He received his BS in Business at the University of South Carolina, his Masters of Divinity at Southeastern Baptist seminary, Doctors of Ministry at Drew University in Madison, N.J.
He served 8 years in the Army during the Korean War, 5 years as an Internal Auditor at Union Trust Bank in Shelby, NC. He pastored at Wake Union Baptist Church for 3 years in Wake Forest, N.C as well as 24 years at First Baptist Church in Liberty,NC. He also pastored for 7 years at Second Baptist Church in Shelby, NC. He was active in Randolph Baptist Association serving one year as moderator and one term on the Board of Directors of the Biblical Recorder.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Kelly Dawkins of Asheville, NC whom were married for 64 wonderful years. His sons Reginald, Jr. Wife Linda of Woodstock, GA. James David (son) wife Ashley Tallahassee, FL. Samuel LeGrey (son) wife Stacey Greenville, SC. 3 grandchildren , Connor St. Petersburg, FL Cole (grandson) Atlanta, GA and Grey (grandson) , Greenville, SC.
Graveside service will be held at Cleveland Memorial Park on Saturday January 23, 2021 at 11 am with Rev. Keith McKinney officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boiling Springs Baptist Church P.O. Box 917 Boiling Springs, NC 28017
