Thelma Jean Nance Kelley
 Mrs. Thelma Jean Nance Kelley, 65, of 6042 Deep Green Drive in Shelby, NC departed this life on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby.  She was born in Shelby on March 24, 1947 to the late George Nance, Sr. and Hattie Glenn Nance.

Thelma was a faithful member of Fairview A.M.E. Zion Church in Earl, NC where she served as president of the missionary department, president of the usher board, class leader and she formerly served as secretary of Sunday school for many years.

Thelma had a heart for caring for people and this was greatly expressed in her chosen field of employment as a C.N.A.  Over the years, she has worked at Kings Mountain Hospital, Cleveland Home Health Care, White Oak Manor, Community Living and Choices Group Home.  In addition, she also did private duty work.

Thelma had a great passion for growing flowers which confirmed her nurturing heart.  She loved planting and watching things grow.  She took pride in everything she did.  She had a calm spirit about her that showed her love for her family and those around her.  Her demeanor and her spirit were always pleasant and she went out of her way to show how important family was to her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, BK Kelly, Jr.; one son, Franklin Kelly, Sr; a grandson, Michael Evans, Kelly, Jr.; two brothers, George “Samp” Nance, Jr. and Clarance “Chivis” Nance and sisters, Docia Nance, Lucille Nance Adams and Ethel “CheChe” Nance Woods.
She leaves to cherish fond memories to her son, Michael Evans Kelly, Sr. (Valerie) of Shelby and a daughter, Angie Boger (Aquellous) of Charlotte, NC; two granddaughters, Kendra Kelly and Ashley Kelly both of Shelby; one very special grandson, Franklin Kelly Jr. of Charlotte; his brother, Quenton “Q” Cole and his sister, Keashan Hamrick both of Charlotte whom she accepted as her own grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, Omari, Carmella, Ma’rah and Janya all of Shelby; a brother, James O. Nance (Patti); five sisters, Betty Card, Jeannie Nance, Laura Mathis (Richard), Mary Nance and Christine Nance all of Shelby; two adopted sons, Patrick Nance of Charlotte and Travis Nance of Shelby; a very special nephew, Allen Adams of Shelby; a life-long dear friend, Marteresa Chambers “Granny” of Shelby; one  additional sister-in-law, Betty Nance of Shelby and four additional  brothers-in-law, Bennie Woods of Shelby, Robert Kelly of Myrtle Beach, SC, Ernest Kelly and Rev. Roosevelt Kelly (Lola) both of Shelby and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 22, 2012 at 3:00 PM at Shoal Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Franklin L. Smith officiating and Rev. Roosevelt Kelly delivering the eulogy.  Burial will take place at Fairview A.M.E.
