Thomas Steve "Jabo" Thompson

Thomas Steve "Jabo" Thompson, 76, of 2312 Marlowe Avenue Shelby, NC passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at White Oak Manor in Shelby.

He was born in Cleveland County, NC.

Thomas was a longtime member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Always a hard working individual, Thomas was formerly employed with Celanese Industries for 20 years. After, he was employed with Salem Trucking for another 20 years or more and earned the distinction of one million miles of service accident free before retiring.

In his spare time, Thomas was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves baseball team and was a New England Patriots football fan. He also enjoyed playing cards.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Majorie Maddox, Carl Thompson, Curtis Freeman, Theresa Lynn Freeman, Valerie Lowe, Frederick "Butch" Hopper and Larry Hopper.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Darrick Thompson (Janice) of Shelby; grandchildren, Demetris M. Thompson (Cherrill) of Kernersville, NC and Daquita M. Leslie of Shelby; great-grandchildren, Kingston P. Thompson and DaMarrious Swint; five sisters, Verma Moore of Lawton, OK, Brenda Jeter and Vickie Freeman both of Shelby, Debra Hopper of Kings Mountain, NC and Pat McCaskill of Gastonia, NC; special nephew whom he reared in the home, Brandon J. Freeman; special niece, Patricia Maddox; special cousin, Charles Degree; best friends, Gene Mintz and Ben Wilson and a host of additional nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
