Valerie Michele Parry, 70, of Boiling Springs, NC passed at home on the morning of Dec 2, 2016.

Valerie was a native of Bridgehampton, NY, daughter of the late Florence Bland Parry Grubb & Henry Grubb. She graduated as valedictorian at the age of 16 from Bridgehampton High School in 1963 and attended Goucher College, then completed her Masters from Southampton College of LIU in Library Science. She worked her way up in the library at Southampton College from cataloging clerk to Reference Librarian. Valerie then took a position with Gardner-Webb University as Public Services Librarian in 1984 and moved to Boiling Springs, NC with her daughter. She continued to excel through the years and became Director of the Library at Gardner-Webb. She instituted many changes and advances for the library that are still in effect today and among her many accomplishments, she was also President of the Metrolina Library Assoc. Due to health issues, she retired from GWU in 2008 but continued to work part-time from home on their Special Collections. Valerie was extremely proud to be a member of the Gardner-Webb family and in 2012, she was unanimously voted and named Dean of Libraries Emerita.

Valerie is survived by her daughter, Shannon Pingitore (and fiancé Teresa Blackwell) of Fayetteville, NC; her son-in-law, Joseph Pingitore of Patchogue, NY; her sister, Aleta Rados of Lexington, KY; her great aunt, Catherine Meyer of Ocala, FL and her cousin Linda Mack (and husband Jerry) of Ocala, FL.

There are no memorials or services planned at this time, per Valerie's request. The family encourages all of her friends and the Gardner-Webb family to take a moment and remember her in your own special way.
