Vaughn T. Houser, age 82, of Mooresboro, passed away Friday, November 14, 2025 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
Vaughn was born Friday, March 5, 1943 in Cleveland County to the late Yates Wiseman Houser and Lorena Newton Houser. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Vaughn was an electrician and retired from Duke Energy after many years of faithful service. He was known as a Christian man who loved the Lord and his family. Vaughn enjoyed the water, snorkeling, flying as a pilot, snow skiing, kayaking and traveling. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, John Horton and a brother, Joe Houser.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of twenty years, Hazel Ann Houser; daughter, Ashley Horton-Hill (Baxter) and son, Josh Houser all of Mooresboro; siblings, Wayne Houser, Mary Ann Ramsey, Lance Houser (Linda), Judy Ruppe, Mike Houser (Janet) and Ken Houser (LaDonna); grandchildren, Gracie Houser, Zeke Houser, Lilliana Self (Dylan), Sumter Horton, Gunner Horton, Slade Horton, Avalyn Horton, Huxley Horton and a great granddaughter, Adahlee Self.
A celebration of Vaughn's life was held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 17th at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Mooresboro with Reverend Robbie Hensley and Reverend Kevin Hamrick officiating. The family hosted a time of fellowship one hour prior to the service time at the church. At the other times the family gathered at his daughter's home, 1527 Lake Houser Road, Mooresboro, NC 28114.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, PO Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043 or to the Basics Ministry, PO Box 207, Cliffside, NC 28024.
