Velma Howell Sain
Velma Howell Sain passed away peacefully at Cleveland Regional Medical
Center on Monday, December, 17, 2012.

She was 96 years old on December 10, 2012.  She was the oldest of seven
children born to Thomas and Bryte Carpenter Howell.

Velma grew up in an era where hard work and sacrifice was the norm for farm
families.  She acquired a work ethic which served her throughout her life.
After graduation from North Brook High School and marrying Sam, they
operated a country store and service station along with a cotton gin in
Toluca.  In the mid-fifties they moved to Florida where she worked in a drug
store and Sam farmed.  After returning to NC, she attended cosmetology
school.  She worked at Elite Beauty Salon in Cherryville with her
sister-in-law and dear friend, Thelma Sellers.  In later years, dementia
robbed her of life's enjoyments.   Velma was a member of St. Peter's United
Methodist Church where she was a faithful member of the UMW and adult choir.
She served in many offices of the church.  She was a member of Belwood Home
Extension Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam M. Sain; great-granddaughter,
Allie Styers; brothers, Wayne, Dean, Glenn, and Bill Howell; and sisters,
Betty Smith and Ruth Queen.

She is survived by her son, Sam Carrol Sain and wife, Ellen; three
grandchildren,  Rick Lamb, Mandy Styers and husband, Matt and Lara Hemrick
and husband, Chris; great-grandchildren, Isaac Lamb, Macie Styers and Tess
Hemrick.  She is also survived by a number of loving nieces and nephews in
both the Howell and Sain families.  Each of these family members were very
special to her.  She took great joy in her grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.

Visitation will follow the service in St. Peter's United Methodist Church
Fellowship Hall.
