Vergie Dyar Martin

Vergie Dyar Martin, age 89, died Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Atrium Health- Cleveland. Born in Anderson County, SC on June 21, 1929 she was the daughter of the late William John Dyar and Bernice Bennett Dyar. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church in Shelby, and a graduate of Townville High School. She was a gifted Seamstress and did alterations out of her home for many years. She was a good cook, and loved her flowers, and could tell you anything that you needed to know about them. Vergie enjoyed reading and doing word jumbles. She loved her church and talking about all of her wonderful grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Reid Martin, one son Charles Samuel "Sammy" Martin, and one daughter, Susan Martin Maner, six brothers, Elton, William, James, Marion, J.C., and David "DJ" Dyar, as well as one sister, Willie Dyar Kennedy.

Vergie is survived by her son, Stanley Reid Martin of Shelby, and one daughter, Sandra Martin Proctor of Shelby, three grandchildren; Jonathon Martin Proctor (Amber), Christopher Michael Proctor (Brooke), Joseph Martin Maner (Stephanie), four great-grandchildren, Parker, Paisley, and Lily Proctor and Shepherd Maner. Two sisters-in-law; Dorothy and Montez Dyar, brother-in-law, Jim Kennedy, and one son-in-law Robert "Bobby" Maner.

Funeral Service will be held 11 am Wednesday November 21, 2018 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Tench officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 am until 11am in the church sanctuary. Burial will be held following the service at 3:00 pm in Welcome Baptist Church Cemetery, in Pendleton, SC with Rev. Perry Holleman officiating.
