Vernice Elmore Cannon

Mrs. Vernice Elmore Cannon, 78, of 1326 Concord Street Shelby, NC passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Atrium Health- Main in Charlotte, NC. She was born on May 13, 1942 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Earnest Elmore, Sr. and the late Geneva Morgan Elmore.

She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where she has been a member since childhood. She worked at Universal Textiles and Specialty Light until she retired and began to work as a Foster Grandparent at Graham Elementary School.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Cannon Jr., a brother Earnest Elmore Jr., and two sisters Mamie E. Walker and Lois E. Haynes.

She is survived by her son James Cannon III, her daughter Vanessa Cannon, and her granddaughter Lauren Cannon, all of Shelby. In addition, she leaves behind four sisters-in-law Diane Macopson (Joe), Bernice Cannon (Elbert), and Peg Cannon (JC), all of Shelby, and Agnes Elmore (Earnest Jr.), of Raeford, NC. Also left to cherish her memory are a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.

The funeral service for Mrs. Cannon will be private. She can be viewed from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel. The family will be receiving friends at 1326 Concord Street on Thursday February 18, 2021 from 3:00 PM until 6:00PM. Burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery.
