Virginia Jean Huffstetler

Virginia Jean Huffstetler, age 88, left this life the morning of December 13, 2020 due to complications from Covid-19.

It seems fitting that Jean left this life in the place where she dedicated 40 years of her life as the operating room supervisor at Atrium Hospital, or in her heart and ours, Cleveland Memorial.

Jean was the youngest of four children born to P.C. and Lucy Sellers Huffstetler of Kings Mountain. Except for a short period of time in Durham, Jean was a lifelong resident of Cleveland County. She was a graduate of Waco High School, received her degree as a Registered Nurse from Cleveland Memorial School of Nursing and did additional studies at The Baylor University Medical Center in Texas. Jean loved her career as the operating room supervisor. Her career was spotlighted in a feature article in The Shelby Star titled "The Firm Hand". Putting the wellbeing of her patients first was always her primary goal.

Jean loved her family, friends and her church. She was Aunt Jean, Jean, Jean Jean, or Red to the many people who had come into her life in her almost 89 years. You could always depend on Jean regardless of your need; she was always willing to help. Jean loved sports of any kind and would always be the first in the car when there was an extra ticket to a ballgame. Jean loved the beach and the mountains and all that was between the two, especially when family and friends were there. She was a lifelong member of Mary's Grove United Methodist Church and was active in her church until declining health limited her ability to actively participate.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, P.C. and Lucy Sellers Huffstetler, her sisters: Alese Ferreira (Tony), Kathleen Winburn (Bean), a brother, Carney Huffstetler (Ruby), and two nephews, Jimmy Huffstetler and Michael Winburn.

She was survived by her niece, Linda LeMaster (Bill) her nephews, Joseph Ferreira, Thomas Ferreira (Brenda), Ronald Winburn (Patricia), Bonnie Winburn and a number of great nieces and nephews as well as great-great nieces and nephews.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a graveside service will be held at the Mary's Grove United Methodist Church cemetery at 1:00 pm Thursday, December 17, 2020.

We were all blessed to have had Jean in our lives. She will truly be missed.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mary's Grove United Methodist Church, 1223 Mary's Grove Church Road, Kings Mountain, NC 28086.
