Virl Godfrey Davis

Virl Godfrey Davis, age 96 of Cliffside, NC went to her Heavenly home Sunday February 23, 2020 at Hospice of Carolina Foothills of Forest City with her loved ones by her side. The daughter of the late Charles Russell Godfrey and Clara Harmon Godfrey, she was born in Cherokee County SC on August 27, 1923.

A graduate of Cliffside High School, she had a unique opportunity to obtain a Business Degree at Draughon's Business College in Columbia, SC. She pursued a career with Duke Energy, Cliffside NC and Lutz Furniture Company, Shelby, NC until her retirement.

During this time, she met the love of her life Kyle W. Davis, they were married on December 23, 1944. They continued a joyous life together until he went to his Heavenly home on June 19, 2018.

Traveling was a passion for her, she especially loved camping and visiting Outer Banks, NC, Florida and TN. Virl loved life, but she truly loved serving the Lord. She was a dedicated member of Prospect Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School was a member of the choir and enjoyed various other church activities. She loved gardening, fishing, cooking and especially loved finding treasures at thrift stores.

She was preceded in death by one brother Charles Godfrey and a sister Opal Godfrey Johnson; niece Judy Johnson and nephew Gene Scruggs and beloved nephew Jimmy Davis.

Left to cherish her memories are a brother Rev. John Godfrey and wife Helen and daughters Terry Smith and husband John and Leslie Clay and husband James. A nephew Stan Johnson and wife Laura. Loving and caregiver niece Kay Davis McClain and husband Dennis and children Angie Quinn and husband Marcus and Robin Frady; nieces Pam Davis and children Christie Cole and husband Barry and Craig Davis, Dorothy Thrift, Cathy Angle and husband Greg. Virl is also survived by a host of friends whom she loved like family; and her special friend, Mary Frances Moore.

The service for Virl Davis will be 2:00pm Wednesday February 26, 2020 at Eggers Funeral Home of Cliffside with a one-hour visitation prior to the service. The Rev. John Godfrey will be officiating the service.

Memorials are to be made to Prospect Baptist Church 2610 Prospect Church Road Mooresboro, NC 28114.

The family wishes to give thanks for the wonderful care received at Fair Haven of Forest City and nurses of Hospice of Carolina Foothills Inpatient Unit.
