What’s It Like To Be 106 Years Old?
ILLIAN MOSS
Illian Elizabeth Smith was born on July 9, 1907 and was the only girl out of the four children her family. She’s from Fallston and grew up on a farm called the Royster Plantation. Illian still dips her favorite snuff, Tube Rose Sweet Scotch and she’ll tell you the story of how she got started. She said when she was just a little baby she had “the worm disease”. For a cure, her mother put some snuff on her finger and gave it to her. It got rid of the worms. Today, at 106 years of age, she doesn’t have worms and dips three times a day. She loves to talk and tell stories. Aside from a little difficulty hearing, she loves visitors and is very sharp. Illian worked at the Dover Yarn Mill until she retired and the last five years she’s lived at Cleveland Pines. Needless to say, she is something special and a treasure to behold. If you see Illian be sure to wish her a happy 106th birthday.                                   –M. A. Andrews
