Mr. Wilbert Hopper, 72, of 3306 Oakcrest Drive Apt. E Shelby, NC passed away on Monday, March 23, 2020 at Atrium Health-Cleveland in Shelby. He was born in Cleveland County, NC on December 8, 1947 to the late Nannie Hopper and Ralph Byrd.

Wilbert was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam era. Wilbert worked for Patterson Florist and was a crane operator at C & C Scrap. He enjoyed playing spades and spending time with his family. He was a loving father and grandfather and loved his grandchildren very much.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ruth Surratt and a brother, Ernest Bill Hopper.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Mary McCombs Hopper; his daughters, Lisa Hopper Davis, Leslie Hopper Burris (Joshua), Danielle "Nikki" Hopper, Tameka Hopper, April Potlow ( Lee) and Diamond Hill; one son, Shawn Hopper (Melissa) all of Shelby, NC; one brother, Leroy Hopper of Shelby; two sisters, Christine Wright of Shelby and Patricia Hopper of Hickory, NC; a special friend, Brenda Barkins of Shelby; 25 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Due to recent coronavirus state guidelines limiting the size of gatherings, the service for Mr. Hopper will be private. He may be viewed on Friday, March 27, 2020 at S.T.
