William (Bill) Dale Albright

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." - 2 Timothy 4:7

William (Bill) Dale Albright, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, a devoted servant of Christ and proud United States Navy veteran, passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior on December 13, 2025, surrounded by family in North Carolina. We are grateful to the Lord for his 90 years.

Born on September 9, 1935, in Port Angeles, Washington, on Puget Sound, Bill joined the U.S. Navy in 1955, rising to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He dedicated 20 years to active duty and an additional 10 years in the U.S. Navy Reserves. He met his beloved wife, Barbara Maria Albright (Bobbie), while stationed in Guam in 1958, and they were soon married.

During his Navy service, Bill deployed to Japan and served at various duty stations, including Alameda, California; Bethesda, Maryland; and finally the Naval Amphibious Base in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he retired. While in the Navy, he frequently deployed at sea, often spending up to nine months at a time aboard ship. He was known for his meticulous record-keeping and served as the ship's bookkeeper, a role he continued while stationed on base. Following his retirement, he attended community college in Virginia Beach and earned two associate degrees in business.

In his younger years, Bill played the French horn and sang in the school boys' choir. He later picked up the ukulele during his Navy service. Bill was a devoted family man, a Eucharistic minister, avid gardener, handyman, and good neighbor. He loved playing sports with his children and their friends, including touch football, basketball, horseshoes, and croquet. He also enjoyed card and board games, backyard barbecues, and had a well-known sweet tooth.

Bill was married to his beloved wife, Barbara Maria Albright (Bobbie), for 62 years, until her passing in 2020 at age 90. He is survived by five children: William Albright, Jr.; Jeff Albright (wife, Donna); Allen Albright (wife, Tammy); Darlene Albright Hamrick (husband, Sam); and Sharon Albright; and several grandchildren who affectionately called him Papa Bill.

Grandchildren include Jane Hamrick, Henry Hamrick, Katie Albright, Stephen Holland, Nicolas Albright, Jay Albright, Benjamin Albright; Angelique Albright, and Brandi Albright. He is also survived by one great-grand child, Riker Albright.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Hildur Albright, and his sister, Jeanne Albright Hurt.

Bill will be remembered for his steadfast faith, unwavering devotion to family, and honorable service to his country.

A funeral service will be held at Princess Anne Memorial in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., with full military honors.

Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home & Crematory will be handling local arrangements for the family.
