William "Bill" Heyward Masters

William "Bill" Heyward Masters, age 94, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Tryon Estates in Columbus, NC. Born on December 16, 1927, he was the son of the late William Earple Masters and Ella Mae Roberts Masters. In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Mary Sue Stegall Masters and his brother, Harold Masters. Bill was born in Easley SC and graduated from Easley High School in 1945, served several years at Fort Bragg with the U.S. Army Air Corps and was honorably discharged in 1947. He continued his education at, then, Clemson College and graduated in 1952 with a B.S. Degree in Textile Manufacturing. Bill devoted his entire managerial working career to the textile industry. He was a Mason and Shriner, as well as, past President of Boiling Springs Rotary Club, where he was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow.

Bill will be remembered as an avid golfer, Clemson University fan and Gardner Webb University supporter. Most of all, he loved time spent gardening, traveling with his wife, Sue and his dog, Mac.

Bill is survived by his sister, Montez Masters Smith, his two nephews, Mitchell Smith (Peggy) and Terry Smith (Jill), a niece, Maria Arms (Don) and a dear friend Patsy Willis. Also left to cherish his memory are several great nieces and nephews.

A funeral service with full military honors will be held 3:00PM Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at the chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. David Webb officiating the service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2:00PM - 3:00PM. Burial will follow the service in the Mausoleum of Cleveland Memorial Park.
