William D. Lackey

William D. Lackey, fondly known as "Bill", passed away Friday, January 13, 2023 peacefully at his home in the company of his children.

Born in Shelby, NC, he lived most of his adult life in Alexandria, VA, Crofton, MD, and McLean, VA, before moving back to his hometown of Shelby in 2002.

He attended Shelby High School, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of South Carolina, and American University Law School.

For 35 years he faithfully and proudly executed his duties and responsibilities for the United States Senate in the positions of Parliamentarian and Journal Clerk.

His passions were for government, politics, golf, and antique furniture; but his love was for his daughter, Carter P. Lackey, and his son, William D. Lackey IV, who survive him. He is also survived by his brothers, Jesse and Stephen Lackey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lillian Lackey, and his ex-wife Martha W. Lackey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cleveland County Hospice, 951 Wendover Heights Dr., Shelby, NC 28150.

To honor the life of Mr. William Dixon Lackey, a memorial service will be held privately by the family.
