William Dwight Earl, age 85, of Shelby, North Carolina passed in the evening of October 31, 2023.

Born in Cleveland County on May 29, 1938, Dwight was the son of Julius and Nettie Bivens Earl. Dwight is preceded in death by his parents, older brother, J.C. Earl, eldest sister, Judith Beatrice Earl Cook and youngest son, Keith Lane Earl. He is survived by his spouse, Betty McEntire Earl and son, William Dwight Earl, Jr. Survivors include grandchildren Alyson Taylor Harold and husband John Aaron Harold, and Julian Keith Earl, and great grandchildren, Peyton and Rylee, whom he adored. Surviving siblings include Ethel Cook, Lucille Garrett, Betty Cook, Harold Earl, Tryon Earl and twins, Jerry Wayne Earl and Larry Warren Earl.

Dwight grew up on the family farm in Casar and met his wife Betty McEntire Earl in October 1958 while at Silver Villa Drive-In. They married on November 15, 1959. Dwight graduated from Casar High School and attended the University of South Carolina.

Dwight started work for Fiber Industries, Inc in May, 1963. He transferred to Hoerst Celanese Charlotte location in July, 1976 and then back to Shelby in 1978, retiring in 1993.

The family will hold a casual Celebration of Life from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, Saturday, November 11th at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home in Fallston.
