William Eugene Spangler

William Eugene Spangler, 64, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 15, 2012 in Elberton, GA.  A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Malcolm Eugene and Della Margaret Perry Spangler.  After graduation from Nashville Auto Diesel College in 1967, Gene joined his father who started Spangler’s Wheel Service in the early 1950’s.  After his father’s retirement in 1970, Gene took over the business and was owner and operator until his retirement in 2010.  Gene was a leader in his church, Calvary Baptist, and was passionate about his faith and his church.  He was a Sunday school teacher of the Middle School Youth Department for 25 years and served many years as a Deacon.  He also served as interim music director as needed because of his love for music.  He was a God-fearing man – a role model to all.  Gene led by example and was always there for his family and friends – a selfless man.  He was extremely proud of his family and was a loving husband, father and granddaddy.  He loved golf, racing, shagging and beach music.

Gene is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Pat Drewery Spangler; sons, Bryan Spangler and wife Stacy of Shelby, Steven Spangler and wife Lacey of Cherryville; granddaughter, Lilah Spangler; sister, Jane Spangler Runyan and husband Larry of Winston-Salem; Shelby City Park Mad Dog Golfers; and numerous extended family members and special friends.

A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00pm on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Calvary Baptist Church.  The Rev. Tony Sisk will be officiating.  Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00pm on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory.  At other times the family will be at the home.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 320 Old Boiling Springs Road, Shelby, NC 28152.
