William Glenn Sperling

William Glenn Sperling, 91, of 330 Sperling Drive departed this world and entered the presence of God on June 24, 2018. He was a life-long resident of Waco, NC. Born September 13, 1926, Glenn was the son of the late Yates Sperling and Essie Spangler Sperling. After graduating from Waco High School, he served 2 years in the US Navy during World War II. Upon returning home to Waco, he married Ruby Beam of Shelby. They celebrated their 71st anniversary on September 13, 2017. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel Jones and her husband, Robert and a brother-in-law, Bobby Spake.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby, and their 2 daughters, Jane Sperling Young (Bryan) of Shelby, and Nancy Sperling Parrish of Raleigh. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Glenn Sperling Young (Hollan) Meredith Parrish Zingraff (Owen), Yates Parrish, Joseph Parrish, and twin great grandsons, Glenn and Mack Young. His surviving siblings are Faye Spake and Ruth Wilson (Jimmy). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, Spangler and Sperling cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Glenn spent his life working in the family business, Yates Sperling & Son. He and his father farmed cotton, soy beans, and other crops, and had a seed and grain business which sold feed to dairies and planting seed to cotton farmers. Growing cotton was the heart of the business for most of Glenn's life.

Glenn served on the Cleveland County Farm Services Agency Board for 38 years. In addition, he served on the Carolina Cotton Growers Cooperative Board for over 40 Years. The most important things in Glenn's life were God, family, and work. He was a life long member of New Prospect Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and a Trustee. Glenn's long, happy life will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at 2:00pm. at New Prospect Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Brackett officiating. Visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall.

The family extends sincere appreciation to Hospice and other care providers for their service to Glenn and especially to Kimberly Richards who devoted so much time caring for him and his family.
