William Haven Thompson, III
 Mr. William Haven Thompson, III, age 82, died February 5, 2011 at Wendover Hospice, Shelby, NC.  He was born July 15, 1928 in Springfield, MA to the late William Haven Thompson, Jr. and Hazel Allen Thompson.  He was also preceded in death by brother, Robert Dakin Thompson and son, William Haven Thompson, IV. 

He was educated in the Hartford, CT public schools followed by degrees from Colby College and the University of Connecticut.  He was drafted into the Army and served in Korea with the 45th Infantry Division as a Sergeant.  Following military service he worked in two insurance organizations followed by a 30 year career with the DuPont Company as a Safety, Fire Protection, and Environmental Engineer, finishing at the Philips and DuPont joint venture plant in Grover, NC.  Upon his retirement he enjoyed many years as a member of the Senior Golf Association of Cleveland County.

Daughters: Beth Hurd, Nashua NH

 

Martha Pattberg and husband Glenn, Coconut Creek, FL

Sons: Peter Thompson and wife Donna, Wall Township, NJ

John Thompson, Frederick, MD

Brother: Allen Crawford Thompson and wife Mary, Vestal, NY

5 Grandchildren: Melissa Gramp, Joseph and Jennifer LeTual and

 Dale and Kathryn Hurd

5 great grandchildren: William, Patrick, Brianna, Tyler, and Andrew.

5 Cousins.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICE: Lakeside in Oakland, ME where the family has maintained a summer home since 1936

The Thompson family sincerely appreciates the care and concern shown by the doctors at Sanger, the staff of the progressive care unit at Carolina’s Medical Center, and Cleveland County Hospice at Wendover, Shelby, NC
