William Robert "Bill" Marsh, 90, formerly of Shelby, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, in Clarkton, North Carolina surrounded by his family.

A native of Union, South Carolina, he was born on February 20, 1933, to the late William Simpson Marsh and Melissa Gossett Marsh.

Bill was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army in Germany with the occupation forces following World War II. Using the GI Bill, he lettered in Baseball and graduated from Clemson Agricultural College in 1959. He was a retired supervisor with Doran Textiles and a retired volunteer fire fighter with Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department in Shelby. He was an active member of the Clarkton Lions Club. A member of Flint Hill Baptist Church, he truly loved Gospel music, enjoyed working outdoors in his yard, metal detecting, and a small coin collection.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Jeanette Kelly Marsh, and a grandson, Jonathan William Ledbetter.

He is survived by his son, Lieutenant Colonel Ret. Rusty Marsh and his wife Gail of Clarkton; his daughter, Jane Marsh Ledbetter of Boiling Springs; five grandchildren, Kelly Marsh Mize and her fiancé Kyle Sledge of Clarkton, Billy Marsh and his wife Emily of Franklinton, Allie Marsh of Houston, Texas, Justin Ledbetter and his wife Tanya of Winston-Salem, and Jordan Ledbetter and his wife Jessica of Boiling Springs; and his great grandson, Lane Mize.

The family would like to thank his close friends, church family, physicians, his CNA Tracy, his Hospice Nurse Krista, and his special friend Mattie Cash for all of their kindness, compassion and care during this trying time.

Graveside funeral services with military honors will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Cleveland Memorial Gardens with Rev. Shane Kirby officiating. Honorary Pallbearers are Steve Hamrick, Brian Hawkins, Pete Weaver, Randy Walker, and Kyle Sledge.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Flint Hill Baptist Church, 2207 Flint Hill Church Road, Shelby, NC 28152; or American Legion Post 82, P. O. Box 82, Shelby NC 28151.
