William Robert Pierce, 87, passed away Saturday January 6, 2024 at Atrium health in Shelby.

Born in Woodbury, NJ on August 28, 1936 he was the son of the late Robert Canway Pierce and Sara Lavinia Mole Pierce. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Beverly McEnery, grandson Phillip Grey Hammel, daughter Susan Goins.

A dedicated cultivator of orchids, as well as an entrepreneur, William took pride in owning and managing his own gas station, demonstrating not only a keen business sense but also a hands-on commitment to his endeavors. His ability to work with his hands extended beyond the professional realm, defining him as a craftsman in every aspect of life.

In celebrating William's journey, we honor a soul who found harmony in the elements of life, cultivated beauty with care, and left an enduring legacy through his beloved wife and family. May his love for the mountains, the ocean, orchids, and the art of creation be forever etched in our hearts as we bid farewell to a remarkable individual who touched the lives of many.

William is survived by his wife of 66 years Doris Weidman Pierce, daughter Sharon Hammel (John) and son William Pierce, Jr., (Tanya). Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Sara Karner (Kevin), Candace Wortman (Zachary), Will Pierce, Olivia Pierce, Ben Greene (Amanda), Jessica Leone (Nick), Amy Vanderveen (Chance), as well as 13 great grandchildren.

The family will hold a celebration of life service at a future date.
