William Roy Herndon, age 83 of Kings Mountain, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 15, 2021.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Elizabeth "Libby" Barrett Herndon of the home, a son, Jeffrey Scott Herndon and wife Barbara of Kings Mountain, NC, two grandchildren, Caleb Thomas Herndon and fiancée Melissa Hoyle of Kings Mountain, NC, and Leah Herndon Barefoot of Kings Mountain, NC, and two brothers, Ray B. Herndon and wife Jean of Kings Mountain, NC, and Coyt Herndon of Polkville, NC.

Born May 7, 1937 in Cleveland County, Roy was the son of the late Frank and Evelyn Dixon Herndon. Roy was an owner and operator of Herndon's Small Engine Repair Shop for more than 45 years. During this time, customers would come from all parts of North and South Carolina to buy parts and have their mowers repaired. Roy was a faithful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. They enjoyed camping trips to the mountains with the family. He also enjoyed good food and taking care of his animals. Roy was a loyal member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he had previously served as a Deacon. Roy will truly be missed by all that knew him.

A funeral service will be held 3:00 pm Sunday, April 18, 2021 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. A visitation will be held from 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
