William "Tom" Thomas Bowen

SHELBY: William "Tom" Thomas Bowen, 87, died Saturday, December 4, 2021, at Atrium Health Charlotte. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Overstreet Bowen. Tom was a loving father and grandfather who was a member of Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church. He retired from PPG after 35 years and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He especially loved farming and took great pride in his tomato plants, from planting their seeds to harvesting and then selling them to customers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Bowen; son, William Patrick Bowen; brothers, John Wray Bowen and wife Ruth, Marshall Ted Bowen and wife Eula; sisters, Virginia Bowen Snellings and husband Clay, and Lucy Bowen Smythe; brother-in-law, V.T King.

He is survived by his daughters, Mary Ann Bowen Skinner of Charlotte, and Nancy Bowen Terry and husband Jeff of Shelby; son, Paul Bowen of Shelby; grandchildren, Lauren Terry Holmes and husband Scott, Patrick Terry, Jared Skinner, Justin Skinner, Tyler Bowen, and Megan Dorsey and husband Ronnie; great-grandchildren, Bethany, Brilee, Layna, and Ashlynn Skinner, Brooklyn Mabe, and Lincoln Dorsey; great-great granddaughter, Kennedy Giles;

Sister, Sarah King; special niece, Carolyn Smith; and numerous other nieces and nephews; caregivers, Caitlyn Joseph, Meagan Hamrick, Nadine Wallace, Judy Freeman, and Patrick Terry. Special friends, Leonard and Patsy Self and Don Gibson.

A graveside service will be held 12 PM, Wednesday, December 8, 2021, in Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Revs. Pricilla Walker & Julie Roberts officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5-6:30PM, Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.

Those in attendance are asked to wear face masks.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Height Dr, Shelby, NC 28150.
