Kings Mountain – William W. “Bill” Whitney, Sr., 93, passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Bill was born in Huntington, West Virginia a son of the late Wallace B. Whitney and Emma Showalter Whitney. He was retired as construction engineer and consultant engineer for Ralph Whitehead and Associates in Charlotte. He was a member of Mary’s Grove United Methodist Church and served his country during WWII in the US 8th Army Air Force in the Civil Engineer Corp and US Naval Reserves as a tail gunner.
In addition to his parents Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane Whitney Bromeier and a grandson.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Faye Carpenter Whitney of the home; a son and daughter-in-law William Wallace Whitney, Jr. and Gwen of Gulf Shore, Alabama; a son-in-law Edward of Raleigh; a sister Isabell Staver of Virginia Beach, VA; also surviving are several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Saturday, December 8, 2012 from 9:45 until 10:45am at Mary’s Grove United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00am at Mary’s Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Charlene Hutchings officiating.
