William "Willie" Perry Davis Sr.

William "Willie" Perry Davis Sr was born December 1, 1942 in Lincoln County to the late William Franklin and Mandy Pryor Davis.

He walked through the gates of heaven on June 25, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers; Roy, Edward, Toy and Carl as well as a special brother-in-law, Wayne Bridges. Willie was one of the hardest working men around. He graduated from Central High School in Kings Mountain in 1963. Prior to graduation he worked with his father building houses and farming. After graduation he worked for his uncle, Norman Davis until he received his draft notice from the Army on December 30, 1966. After returning from service he worked in construction. On June 1, 1979 he received his contractor's license. He then established William P. Davis Residential Contractor.

He loved his family and friends, especially his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ whom he served faithfully. Willie was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Shelby for over 60 years. He was a deacon, choir member and served on numerous committees. For over 55 years he was a "Pied Piper" in the nursery department working mostly with the toddlers and two-year olds class. He had a special trait of calming crying babies when others could not.

Willie was sworn into the United States Army in January 1967 and proudly served for three years. When he returned home from the army he joined Oak Grove Fire Department. In 1975, he was elected as Chief of the department and served in this position until 1993. He also served as President of the Cleveland County Firefighter's Association and as a member of the Cleveland County Rural Fire Commission. In 2018, he was presented with the prestigious honor of The Order of the Long Leaf Pine.

On Christmas day in 1965, Willie married his wife of 60 years, Diane White. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons; William "Perry" Davis Jr. and wife Shannon, who did more than could ever have been expected and David Dwayne Davis and wife Tonia all of Kings Mountain. He also had four grandchildren; David Dwayne Mayes of Lincolnton, NC, Miranda Davis Suttles (Dustin) of Cowpens, SC, Lacey Davis Shackelford (Christopher) of Kings Mountain, NC and William "Blake" Davis (Kristin) of Kings Mountain, NC; five great-grandchildren; Noah, Weylon, Nevaeh, Annmarie and Thoren as well as a special sister-in-law "Sis", Theresa Bridges who has gone above and beyond helping in many ways.

The family would also like to extend their sincerest thanks to Kayron Wiseman and Sherry Smith for the excellent care they provided Willie while he was at home and also to the staff at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain.

Services for Willie will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2026 at 3:00 at Eastside Baptist Church in Shelby, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:30 prior to the service with Fireman's Honors.

Burial will follow the service with military honors and will be held at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 1022 Oak Grove Road Kings Mountain, NC.
