Willie Asbury Wray

Willie Asbury Wray, 92, known to most as "Uncle Tunchie" departed this life on Friday, April 26, 2024 at Cleveland Pines Nursing Home in Shelby, NC. He was born on February 27, 1932 to the late Ida Wilson Wray and the late Abe Jackson.

Willie worked as a construction worker for 27 years driving a dump truck and The Shelby Daily Star. He was a very outgoing person who never met a stranger and a man who loved his family.

He was a faithful member of Eskridge Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he joined at an early age. He remained there until his health declined. He was a member of the Men's Choir and a member of the Trustee Board.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three sons, Terry Leon Cannon, Ricky Lee Woods, Christopher O' Neal Huskey; one daughter, Gail Wray; five sisters, Mae Charles Ross, Betty Jo Wray, Dorothy Lee Hall, Vinnie Johnson, and Beulah Cannon; three brothers, John Wray, Randy Wray and Robert Wray.

Memories of Willie are left in the hearts of his five daughters, Cynthia Wray, Linda Wray, Nell Wray, Dell Wray, Brenda Wray; two sons, Rev. Willie Dean Wray (Desima) and Todd Wray (Veronica); two sisters, Helen Banner and Merlean Carson (Jimmy); one brother, Sherwood Wray and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great - great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousin and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 3:30 PM at Shiloh Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until 3:30 PM on Saturday, all other times at 1415 Clairmont Drive, Shelby, NC, Tuesday through Saturday 12:00 PM until 7:00 PM.

Burial will take place at Eskridge Grove Baptist Church, Shelby, NC.
