Wilma "Willie" Willis Lavery

CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Wilma "Willie" Willis Lavery, 85, of Cherryville Highway,
went to see Jesus on Sept. 26, 2018.

Willie was born in Gaston County, NC on August 11, 1933, to Lester and Wilma
Mitchem Willis. Willie was a graduate from Cherryville High School and a
member of Anthony Grove Baptist Church. Willie was involved in many church
activities including serving as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible
School teacher and director, and Girls in Action and Acteen leader for many
years. She and her family went on several mission trips together. She led
her family by example. She treasured spending time with friends and family
in her home. Willie had a witty personality and enjoyed laughing with all
she met. She loved the 4th of July and always directed a family parade
around the family property. "To know Willie was to love Willie." She loved
life to the fullest.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62
years, Donald Franklin Lavery, and brother, Thomas Willis.

Survivors include her four daughters: Donna Lavery of Cherryville, Barbara
Hill (Paul) of Statesville, Anita Lowe (Neal) of Forest, VA, Carol Ann Hoard
(Joel) of Shelby; a brother, Robert Willis (Kay) of Cherryville; and
sister-in-law, Evelyn Willis of Charleston. Willie's pride and joy were her
grandchildren: Paula Hill; Mindy Hill Abernethy (Marcus); Brandon, Grayson
and Allena Lowe; and Lavery and Will Hoard.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:15 PM on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at
Anthony Grove Baptist Church in Crouse and at other times the family will be
at the home.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 PM on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at
Anthony Grove Baptist Church, with Dr. Dennis Bean and Rev. Ken Faulkenbury
officiating.

Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Cherryville.
