Yoshie Hirabiyashi Powell

Yoshie Hirabiyashi Powell, born January 12, 1930, passed away November 4, 2017 at Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville, NC. Born in Yokosuka, Japan, Yoshie was the daughter of the late Yoshio and Toyo Hirabiyashi and wife of the late Joseph Aden Powell.

Yoshie completed her high school education in Japan. After graduating from high school, Yoshie worked on a United States Naval base in Yokosuka, Japan. It was there she met her late husband Joseph Aden Powell and learned English. Yoshie and Joseph came back to the states where they later had two children: Gregory and Gary Powell. After Joe completed his time with the US Navy, Yoshie and Joe settled down in Ellenboro, NC. Yoshie became a seamstress for Doncaster, and later retired from there.

Yoshie was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Powell; her father, Yoshio Hirabiyashi; her mother, Toyo Hirabiyashi; and her sister Hanae Toyama. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Gregory Makoto Powell and wife Gina Powell; her son Gary Masao Powell and wife Bridgette Powell; her granddaughter Elisha Weld and husband Chris Weld; her granddaughter Jeanna Johnson and husband Robert Johnson; her grandson Jonathan Powell and fiancé Rosie Jackson; her granddaughter Victoria Powell; great granddaughters, Elora Weld, Elena Weld, and Aniya Powell; and great grandsons Aden Powell and Joseph Powell; her niece Miyoshi Toyama; her nephew Takashi; and her brother in law, Harutoshi Toyama.

She will be missed the most for her amazing food, her uncanny ability to say the most improper thing at the most perfect time, and for always giving her heart and her time to her family and friends. She lived a beautiful life, and experienced some amazing adventures.

"It isn't the date on either end that counts, but how they used their dash, for that dash between the dates represents all the time they spent alive on earth and now only those who loved them know what that little line is worth."

Graveside services will be held 3PM Sunday November 12, 2017 at Bethel Baptist Church cemetery 479 Main Street, Ellenboro, NC 28040.
