Gardner-Webb University Hosts Relay For Life
Gardner-Webb University’s Relay For Life will be held on November 2nd, 2013 at Spangler Football Stadium on campus. It will start at 8:00PM and last until 12:00AM. Senior nursing student, Blaire Teeters, and Alumni Bryte Warrick are the co-chairs of this event. Ruth Anna Housand, a sophmore at GWU has also contributed much to the success of this event. There is a committee of about 15 people who work behind the scenes helping with other details. There are 34 teams registered and 315 participants. They hope to have double the amount of people there from the community! The goal is to raise $30,000 dollars so that next year Gardner-Webb will have it’s “own” Relay For Life event.
During the night there will be food, fun, and games for all.  Jackson Martin will be the DJ and be providing some of the entertainment. There will be a luminary ceremony at 10 PM. All the lights in the stadium will be shut off and the luminaries around the track will be lit.  Holly Sweat will be the speaker for this ceremony.  Between these times there will be zumba, line dances, and a special performance from Gardner-Webb’s Hearts of Fire Dance Ministry team.
Prior to the event there will be a benefit concert outside of Tucker Student Center, that begins at 6 p.m. Local artists Luke Combs and Jonathan Langston will perform.
