On Friday, June 29th, a special reception was held to honor and introduce the new Executive Director of Shelby's Carillon Assisted Living. Carol Whisnant, a Cleveland County native, was very excited to be selected as the new leader of Carillon’s beautiful facility.

On Friday June 8th, Trendsetters located at 1632 South Dekalb Street in Shelby, raised $1526.31 for Hospice in just 6 hours - 12 noon to 6 pm. All proceeds for customer’s clips on that day were donated.

Ida Mae Cook Wright, age 81, resident of Wright Road, Kings Mountain, NC died July 4, 2012 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center, Shelby, NC.
Katie Lee Sherrin Miller, 82, of West Main Street, Mooresboro, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Rosella Carroll Dover, age 89, resident of 107 Parkdale Circle, Kings Mountain, NC died June 28, 2012 at Belaire Nursing Center, Gastonia, NC.

The Shelby City Park Yankees Peewee baseball team won the Championship Saturday, June 23, 2012 vs the Indians with a score of 10-8.

The temperatures have been sweltering even though summer has just begun. Three days in a row over 100 degrees makes outdoor activities less appealing – unless they include a dip in the lake, and even that is like swimming in a tub of hot bath water. Yes its summer, but I won’t complain. This is just the characteristics of where I live.
Braving the extreme heat (105º & 104º), the Shelby Bombers 11U Baseball Team won the All American Summer Championship that consisted of 17 teams. The tournament was played June 30th & July 1st in Charlotte, NC.

After months of hard work and planning the Inaugural Clear Mountain View Music Festival lineup has been finalized! We are very proud of the festival lineup and would like to take the time to thank all those who are helping along the way.
In 2006, Appalachian State University’s Appalachian Cultural Museum closed. At that time, remaining collections from the museum were placed in storage with the hope of reopening in a new location in the future.
