“Street Scene” Uptown Shelby’s Sidewalks Will Become A Stage July 18, 6pm-8pm
There is nothing quite so cool as to stumble upon an impromptu live music set along the sidewalk in a town or city. You may have experienced this unexpected surprise on vacation or in Charlotte, but what about Shelby?

The Boiling Springs 9-10 year old All-Star team recently won the District 1 Title. They were undefeated in the tournament. The team will compete in the State tournament this week in Wilson, NC.
Garrett Ledford, age 9, grew this nice cabbage in his Paw Pa George Ledford’s garden. It ended up weighing 5 pounds and measured 34 inches in circumference.

Nowadays it’s becoming increasingly difficult to differentiate between many “Christian” television programs and the infomercials offering a solution to one’s financial woes. “Just have faith and believe for your miracle” has become the spiritual equivalent of “Work from home 10 - 15 hours per week and earn thousands of dollars each month”.

Gerald Wolfe Jr., 52, of 122 Secret Cove Drive, passed away Sunday, July 7th, 2013, at his residence.
Rickey Gene McSwain, 56, of Autumn Circle, Ellenboro, died on Tuesday, July 09, 2013 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

As a youngster, there was one activity that characterized my summers - swimming. I loved to go to the public swimming pool and stay until my fingers and toes were wrinkled up like prunes.
Shelby City Park will host five Tar Heel Leagues State Girl’s Fast-Pitch Softball State Tournaments July 18th through 21st. These tournaments will feature 5 Shelby host teams and combine to have a total of 39 teams with nearly 600 players and coaches participating in the 4-day events. The tournaments consist of twelve 8 & under teams; eight teams in each of the 10 & under, 12 & under and 14 & under; and three teams in the 17 & under age bracket.

Piecemakers Quilt Guild
Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Lincoln County Senior Center, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen Street, Lincolnton, NC, in room 319. We are here to teach and encourage those interested in the art of quilting. Visitors and new members are welcome. We also have a new class that meets on the second Thursday of each month from 10:00am to 3:00pm to provide one to one instruction to beginning quilters. On June 26, 2013, Cleveland County Animal Control received a complaint at 104 Myers St., Kings Mountain, North Carolina in reference to a raccoon on the property displaying abnormal behavior. The Cleveland County Health Department was notified on July 2, 2013 that the raccoon tested positive for rabies.

Illian Elizabeth Smith was born on July 9, 1907 and was the only girl out of the four children her family. She’s from Fallston and grew up on a farm called the Royster Plantation.
