"Hope Has Not Been Canceled" - that is the theme that the members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland County (BGCCC) have adopted for summer 2020.

It has become a tradition in Shelby every Valentine's Day. Families, co-workers and friends choose to mark the day of love by enjoying lunch at the Shelby City Park Carrousel. Tickets are now on sale for this year's "Valentine's Day Lunch at the Carrousel" event, which will be held on Friday, Feb. 14, 2020, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

County residents are invited to dine and dance in an intimate evening setting at the HealthCare Foundation of Cleveland County's (HFCC) annual gala, set for Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020, at the LeGrand Center in Shelby. Now in its fifth year, the 2020 event - "Night in Tuscany" - will include plentiful food, live entertainment and a silent auction.

Fashion shows are not common in Cleveland County, but Gardner-Webb University (GWU) is presenting one that is even more unusual than most. The clothing items for this fashion show will be made of mixed media and will be wearable sculptures that display biblical content.

The Grand Ole Opry (or a close approximation) is coming to Shelby! Featuring artists such as TG Sheppard, Janie Fricke and Darin and Brooke Aldridge, it is all part of a benefit concert called "Remembering Earl" presented by the Earl Scruggs Center (ESC). The concert will take place at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020, in Shelby High School's Malcolm Auditorium.

Hikers and climbers at Crowder's Mountain State Park will find the going a little easier very soon thanks to the work of the Carolina Climbers' Coalition (CCC). The group has already had one work day at the park this year, on Jan. 2, 2020, and they have another scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020, at 9 a.m.

The holidays are over, and the winter seems to stretch on for weeks to come. But the Uptown Shelby Association (USA) is offering a new event on Jan. 11, 2020, that will add some pizzazz to the gray days of early January. The Seeds in Season Winter Dinner will take place that Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m. at Uptown Indigo, located at 112 N. Lafayette St. in Shelby.

It's often the first sign of Christmas. That familiar sound of ringing and the sight of the bright red kettle at the doorway of area stores. It's the time of year when everyone knows what the Salvation Army (SA) is all about.

These are the words that Alvin Gentry said in 2016 to the members of the Girls & Boys Club of Cleveland County (BGCCC). Gentry, who is now head coach of the NBA's New Orleans Pelicans, grew up in Cleveland County and attended the Club as a boy.

The City of Kings Mountain is hoping that you will come "Home for Christmas," even if Kings Mountain isn't your hometown. The celebration, now in its second year, is scheduled for Saturday, Dec.14, and Saturday, Dec. 21 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. each evening in downtown Kings Mountain near Patriots Park.
